Late Applications **

There is no late application deadline. However, applications completed after the application deadline will be reviewed only if space is available in the program. Check to see if your program is still accepting applications. Late applications must include a non-refundable processing fee of $150, in addition to the regular application fee of $80. If applying after the enrollment deadline, the $850 non-refundable security deposit must also be submitted with the application.

Late applicants may also incur additional fees to cover any increases in cost of housing, excursions and other logistical services that may arise as a result of applying after the deadline.
Admission to KEI programs is based on academic performance, 2 letters of reference, a personal statement, and an interview. We look for applicants who are well-rounded, motivated and have a strong interest in studying abroad. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.5. Students with a GPA below 2.5 may still be considered on an individual basis based on their personal situation. A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required for all internship applicants. A minimum GPA of 3.2 is required for the Science, Math and Engineering Research program in Pushchino, Russia.

KEI does not discriminate on the basis of gender, race, color, creed, sexual orientation, national origin, religion or ethnic origin.

Application Requirements

Applications are assessed as they are completed and programs are filled accordingly. It is the student’s responsibility to make sure that the application is completed by the deadline date for the desired term of study.

Applicants should read and understand the information published on the KEI website and KEI program literature. In addition, applicants must agree to abide by policies outlined in the KEI Policies and KEI Student Agreement. Both documents are available in PDF format on this website. Please do not hesitate to contact a KEI advisor if you have questions about the application and enrollment process.

A complete application consists of the following:

APPLICATION FORM
KEI's application form is self-guided and can be submitted online or by mail. A hard copy of the application is available in the KEI Programs Catalogue or you can download a PDF version from this website. Applicants should gather all required information before starting the application process.

PASSPORT INFORMATION
We will need a copy of your passport information page - the one with your picture. If you are submitting the application online, save a copy as JPG, GIF, BMP or TIF file and upload with the application.

Don't have a passport? Don't worry. You can still apply to the program now; just make sure to order your passport as soon as possible and submit a copy before the enrollment deadline. Your KEI advisor can assist you with this process.

PASSPORT PHOTOS
You must mail 4 passport-sized photographs (16 photos if applying to Kenya, Tanzania or South Africa). All photos must be official - 2x2 or 2x1.5 inches. Do NOT send photocopied or scanned photos.

ACADEMIC INFORMATION
You should have the following information available:
  • Academic Advisor - full name, title, department, email and telephone.
If you do not have an Academic Advisor, you can skip this part of the application.

  • Study Abroad Advisor - full name, title, email and telephone.
If you do not have a Study Abroad Advisor, you can skip this part of the application.

  • Transcript - unofficial copy from your most recently attended academic institution. If you are submitting the online application, save a copy as JPG, GIF, BMP or TIF file and upload with the application. Some program locations require an official transcript that must be submitted by the enrollment deadline. Your KEI Program Manager will let you know if this is the case for your program.

LETTERS OF REFERENCE
Two letters of reference are required. At least one reference should come from an instructor who has had you in class recently. The other may be from anyone (except relatives) who has had a significant influence in your life (advisor, piano teacher, coach, employer, etc.) If you are planning to participate in an internship, it would be helpful to have a reference from a current or former employer (if available).

KEI will contact the two people who will write the letters of reference. You only need to provide us with their full name, title, relation to you, email and telephone. Please inform your referrers that KEI will be in contact with them. It is courteous to ask permission of your referrers, giving them the opportunity to decline if they are busy.

PERSONAL STATEMENT
The personal statement should be approximately 500 words, and describe your academic and professional goals, what you have done thus far to achieve these goals and how studying abroad with KEI will contribute to achieving your goals.

APPLICATION FEE
The non-refundable application fee is $80 US, payable by check or money order. Online credit card payments will be available after August 10, 2009.

If you apply and enroll before the program's application deadline the $80 application fee will be applied towards the program fee. Visit the Early Enrollment page for more information about this offer.

Late applications must include a non-refundable processing fee of $150, in addition to the regular application fee of $80. If applying after the enrollment deadline, the $850 non-refundable security deposit must also be submitted with the application.

INTERVIEW
After KEI receives your application, we will contact you to set up a phone interview. Candidates that live in the New York City area may also come in for a personal interview.

Phone interviews are very informal and are a way for you to ask any questions that are on your mind. They are also a way for your Program Manager to find out how best to help you prepare for your study abroad.

FOR MINORS
Applicants under the age of 18 must submit a Waiver for Minors form signed by a legal guardian, usually a parent.
