The quarter and academic year program curriculum offers a wide selection of courses (taught in English) and internships (business, media, humanitarian, clinical, research, etc.).
Courses are held at Mahidol University International College (MUIC).
KEI students are integrated with Thai and international students in all classes.
Internships are organized at various companies, NGOs, humanitarian organizations and clinics.
Students can enroll in up to 16 credits per quarter.
Students enrolled in the academic year program (Fall, Winter and Spring quarters) can enroll in up to 48 credits for the year.
Most courses are 4 credits. Internships are 3 to 8 credits, depending on time commitment.
Program transcripts are issued by MUIC and/or KEI's university of record (accredited in the USA).

INTERNSHIP PROGRAM (SESSION I): 6 credits; late May to late July
This session offers intensive internships (6 credits) in a wide range of professional, research, clinical and humanitarian fields.

Courses are not offered during Session I.
INTERDISICPLINARY STUDIES PROGRAM (SESSION II): 4 to 8 credits; late July to late August
Students can enroll in up to two courses (8 credits).
A limited number of courses is offered from various disciplines, including Thai studies, ecology, mathematics, business, communications, etc.
Session I and Session II may be combined.
Students continuing from Session I have the option of enrolling in two courses during session II, or continuing their internship and enrolling in one course.

SCIENCE RESEARCH & MEDICAL INTERNSHIP PROGRAM: 6 credits; mid June to late July
This program is intended for motivated students interested in conducting cutting-edge research or participating in a medical internship.
The curriculum combines practical experience (research or clinical internship) with scientific writing.
The program is open to high school students with a GPA of 3.2 or higher (college students interested in science research or clinical internships should enroll through the Session I Internship Program).

Students conduct research at Mahidol University and affiliated institutes.
Research selection is based on the student's interests and availability of projects.
The final project is a collaboration between the student and supervising scientist.

Students are expected to write a journal-style research paper under the supervision of scientist mentors.
Students are encouraged to submit their papers to various science contests, including but not limited to, the Intel Science Talent Search (STS), Intel Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) and Siemens-Westinghouse Science Competition.

NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL FAIRS
Clinical Internship
Students interested in medicine may choose to participate in a clinical internship instead of research.
Placements are at one of Mahidol University hospitals or clinics.
Students rotate through different departments, or focus on one department, such as cardiovascular, pediatrics, emergency medicine, etc.
Internship activities may include clinical rounds with physicians, assisting hospital staff with patient management and limited care, and observing different diagnostics, treatment and surgery.
BIOETHICS CROSS-CULTURAL EDUCATION PROGRAM (BioCEP): mid/late July to mid August
BioCEP is a cooperative effort by Columbia University's Center for Bioethics, Mahidol University and Knowledge Exchange Institute.
The program's primary objective is to help students understand how culture and religion influence controversial issues related to Bioethics and medical ethics including: emerging infections (Swine flu, HIV, SARS, and malaria), the integration of Western and Eastern medicines, medical tourism, stem cell research, organ transplantation, informed consent, malnutrition, abortion, public health, genetic testing, and reproductive medicine.
The curriculum combines lectures, seminars, professional visits and clinical internship.
Lectures and seminars are led by professors and guest speakers from Columbia University, Mahidol University, Thai Ministry of Health and various organizations in Thailand.
American students are integrated with European and Asian students.
This unique program is managed separately from other KEI programs.
As such, program logistics such as housing and excursions are different from those described on this website.

BioCEP Summer 2011 Guide 6 credits; mid July to mid August
Students enroll in the Cross-cultural Bioethics, and Medical Anthropology & Medical Diplomacy courses.
Professional internships are available in business, marketing, finance, international relations, media, tourism, hospitality, environment, medicine, health administration and humanitarian aid.
Students are placed in local and international companies, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), schools and humanitarian aid organizations.
Medical and health administration internships are arranged at Mahidol University hospitals.
Internships require a minimum commitment of 120 hours (3 credits), term paper and regular meetings with an internship supervisor.
Students can also participate in community service at humanitarian organizations, schools, orphanages and other organizations.
Community service does not require a minimum commitment; schedules are more flexible than for internships.
There is no credit for community service. Students who need academic credit should consider the internship option.

Credit for internships is awarded based on the number of contact hours.
In general, 1 credit is awarded for every 35 to 40 hours.
A minimum commitment of 120 hours (3 credits) is required.
Students will be registered in an internship course once their placement has been finalized.
Community service is not awarded credit.
