KEI students live on campus at the American College of Switzerland. Standard rooms are double-occupancy and include a bathroom. Rooms are furnished with a desk, lamp, chair, closet and bedding. Laundry facilities are available in the building and town.

ACS offers a meal plan. The meal plan is not included in the KEI program fee. Students are encouraged to purchase the meal plan directly from ACS. Contact KEI for an estimated cost of the meal plan.

Cafes, restaurants and pubs can be found throughout Leysin. Some establishments are affordable. Other can be expensive.

ACS is a small institution with a diverse student body, enabling KEI participants to form close friendships with students from all over the world. The student government plans various parties, mixers, sports activities, films and dinners throughout the year.

Intramural sports club currently available are:
  • Soccer
  • Skiing
  • Softball
  • Swimming
  • Squash
  • Table tennis
  • Badminton
  • Weightlifting
  • Tennis

Students receive a free pass to both of Leysin's sports centers. Facilities include a year-round ice-skating rink, tennis courts, playing fields, volleyball and basketball courts, indoor squash and a swimming pool.
Since Leysin is in Alps, there are only two directions: up or down! The campus is at the very top of the town, and steep walks are the order of the day. A free seasonal bus circulates around town when you get tired of walking.

A scenic cogwheel train (runs every 35 minutes, 20-minute ride) leads to Aigle, a town at the base of the mountain. The train station in Aigle connects with Geneva, Lausanne and the rest of Europe.
KEI will provide you with a prepaid mobile phone that works in Switzerland. Swiss phones must be registered to the passport of the person using them, so you will receive them a day or two after you arrive. The On-Site Coordinator will show you how to place calls and purchase additional minutes for subsequent phone conversations.

The phone is for your personal safety as much as for ease of communication. It is the primary way for the OSC to contact you in case of an emergency, so you need to keep it turned on and answer it at all times.

The campus is wireless. Internet usage is free and unlimited. If you choose not to bring a laptop, a computer lab is available.

Pamela Calhoun is the KEI On-Site Coordinator in Leysin. Pam also serves as the Director of Studies at ACS. Pam was born in the USA, but has been living in Leysin for many years.

Pam will arrange the airport pick-up, orientation and excursions, provide academic advising and mediate any problems or conflicts you might have. She has an office on campus and available at any hour by mobile phone.
The onsite orientation covers the following topics:
  • using public transportation
  • shopping for food
  • academic expectations
  • cultural adaptation
  • the history and culture of Switzerland
  • social activities to meet your fellow students

If you have any questions, be sure to ask your On-Site Coordinator!
