The semester and academic year curriculum offers courses (taught in English and Spanish), internships and community service.
Courses are offered at Universidad San Ignacio de Loyola (USIL).
KEI students are integrated with Peruvian and international students in classes.
Internships and community service are organized at various companies, NGOs and humanitarian organizations.
Most courses are 3 semester credits; some courses are 4 semester credits.
Internships are 3 to 6 credits, depending on time commitment.
Community service is not awarded credit unless done as an internship.
Program transcripts are issued by USIL or KEI's university of record (accredited in the USA).
Students can enroll in up to 5 courses per semester.
The Contemporary Peruvian History and Spanish Language courses are required.
Spanish language may be waived for students with advanced level of proficiency.

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS & SYLLABIInternational Business & Spanish Language
This academic track highlights business opportunities created by recently signed Trade Agreements between Peru and Europe, USA, China, Canada and other countries.
Students must enroll in the Peruvian and Latin American Economy, Marketing Experiences and Trade Opportunities courses.
The Spanish Language (elementary, intermediate or advanced) course is optional.
Each course is 2 credits.
Peruvian and Latin American Economy
This course makes students understand the context of the changes in a globalized world economy, with economic issues as the reinsertion of the Peruvian and Latin American economies in the world, the macroeconomics, stabilization policies, institutional reforms, capital markets and investors, decentralization, and small and micro businesses.
Marketing Experiences
In order to start businesses in other countries, it's relevant to know how suppliers and final customers are attracted to products, services, and promotions. Through Peruvian marketing experiences, students will be able to work on company cases, analyzing the category of the product, its industry, vision and mission, strategies as positioning, marketing objectives, and communications strategies.
Trade Opportunities
After the Free Trade Agreement was signed by the European Union and Peru, every single investor will need to study which markets are available in both regions; and even in markets where Peru has signed a free trade agreement with, such as the US, Canada, China, Thailand, or Singapore. International trends will be analyzed from the markets research of Latin America, Asia, Europe, the USA, and Africa. Peruvian successful export companies' cases will be discussed in class to develop a global marketing plan for foreign market entries.
Spanish (Beginning)
This course enables students to develop communicative skills of the language in order to express ideas and understand everyday needs. What a great experience to speak Spanish in a real context.
Spanish (Intermediate)
This course enables students to develop communicative skills of the language in order to express ideas and understand everyday needs. What a great experience to speak Spanish in a real context.
Spanish (Advanced)
This course enables students to develop communicative skills of the language in order to express ideas and understand everyday needs. What a great experience to speak Spanish in a real context.
Spanish Language & Andean Culture
This academic track combines intensive Spanish language with cultural field trips.
Students enroll in one Spanish language course for 4 to 6 credits.
Students should also consider the same program in Cuzco, Peru.Elementary Spanish
This course aims to give students the necessary abilities for quick and effective written / oral communication in common situations, through the development of a basic vocabulary that allows them to face diverse situations, such as giving information about their family, work and place where they live under different circumstances, in the present and in the past.
Intermediate Spanish
This Spanish course is intended to provide students with the abilities needed for communicating rapidly and effectively in common situations, both verbally and in writing, developing a basic vocabulary that enables a student to handle situations such as giving information about the press, expressing feelings and carrying on conversations in different places, both in the past and present.
Advanced Spanish
Este curso de español está dirigido a proporcionar a los alumnos las habilidades necesarias para comunicarse rápida y de manera efectiva en situaciones comunes tanto de manera verbal como escrita desarrollando un vocabulario básico que le permita desempeñarse en situaciones como dar información sobre su familia, su trabajo y el lugar donde vive, tanto en el presente como en el pasado.
Internships and community service are available during the semester in business, marketing, finance, international relations, journalism, media, tourism, hospitality, environment, medicine, health administration and humanitarian aid.
Students are placed in local and international companies, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), schools and humanitarian aid organizations.
Internships require a minimum commitment of 120 hours (3 credits), term paper and regular meetings with an internship supervisor.
Community service does not require a minimum commitment; schedules are more flexible than for internships.
There is no credit for community service.
Students who need academic credit should consider the internship option.
Placement is based on personal interest, availability of positions and proficiency in Spanish.
A limited number of positions is available in English.
Students who speak Spanish at the intermediate or advanced level have more options.
