KEI is committed to facilitating a safe and healthy experience abroad.
We closely monitor the current world situation and receive regular updates from U.S. and local authorities.
KEI programs include comprehensive medical and travel insurance, mobile phones and onsite support throughout the program.
If you have questions, please visit Health & Safety FAQs page or contact a KEI advisor.
KEI On-Site Coordinators meet students at the airport, arrange safe transfer to housing, provide a comprehensive orientation, organize cultural activities and assist students during the program.
On-Site Coordinators are accessible 24/7 in case of an emergency.
The host institution also provides support to KEI students and serves as a point of contact in case of an emergency.
Communication is essential in emergency situations.
KEI programs include the use of a mobile telephone - allowing our staff to connect with students in case of an emergency and for students to call for assistance in time of need.
The phones can also be used for personal calls.
KEI programs include comprehensive travel and medical insurance.
The insurance covers medical services, emergency dental, emergency evacuation, emergency reunion, trip interruption, repatriation of remains, lost checked luggage, and accidental death and dismemberment.
KEI's Emergency Response Plan covers procedures for dealing with unforeseen events, such as natural disasters, armed conflict and health epidemics. Our protocols conform to the standards of the study abroad industry. In most cases, KEI will suspend a program and assist in evacuating students if the U.S. Department of State issues a Travel Warning for that host location.
REGISTRATION WITH EMBASSY
KEI registers all students with the U.S. Embassy in the host country. The Embassy is a helpful resource in case of an emergency. Emergency information, including Embassy contacts, are provided in KEI's pre-departure guides.
KEI takes great care in assessing risk abroad, preparing information, providing advice and facilitating a safe and healthy international experience. But it is up to the individual student to exercise good judgment and act accordingly. Students are expected to follow the laws and rules of the host country and host institution, and conduct themselves as responsible participants.
