IRELAND GRIFFITH COLLEGE

Griffith College, established in 1974, is Ireland’s premier (and largest) independent college. Griffith is accredited in Ireland by the Higher Education and Training Awards Council (HETAC) and known for high academic standards, small class sizes, focus on professional development and expert professors.. The College consists of five faculties – Business and Finance, Law, Computing Science, Journalism and Media Communications, and Design – and the Leinster School of Music and Drama. More than 7,000 students from more than 50 countries study at Griffith.

Griffith College is housed in a series of historic buildings, located on a 7-acre campus, within Dublin city center. Throughout the 19th century, the site served as a nursery, military barracks and a prison – with such famous occupants as liberator Daniel O’Connell, and president Eamonn De Valera. The present site underwent extensive renovations after it was acquired by Griffith College in 1992.

The campus offers a large array of facilities, including the Griff Bar and Restaurant, the recently refurbished College Library, the Student Union Common Room, 4 photographic darkrooms, 2 radio broadcast studios, 9 computer labs with 300 fully networked workstations, and a gymnasium. A comprehensive array of sports is offered to suit the needs and interests of the student body, and there are athletic classes and 15 sports clubs. In addition, there are a number of student clubs such as the Visual & Performing Arts Society and Taekwondo Society.

Teaching & grading

Depending on the subject, classes may be taught by a combination of lectures / seminars and practical / laboratory sessions. Assessment of students’ work may include written assignments, seminar presentations and examinations. This is not to say, however, that there will be no differences. For example, there is no eating or drinking in classrooms. Students outside of the United States also show a considerable amount of respect towards their professors; telling professors to their face that you think they are wrong, for example, is simply not done.

Grading is based on a slightly modified version of the British educational model.
