COMPUTER SCIENCE
While studying theory and methods of processing information, computer science students are responsible for innovation and progress that significantly affect daily life. When studying abroad, students are challenged in new ways and may face different problems. They learn to recognize sources of uncertainty, and apply appropriate models, technical tools, and evaluations to develop their solutions. Through an international experience, students improve collaboration and communication skills, particularly in a cross-cultural environment. They build transferable skill sets in versatility, creativity, an increased sensitivity to societal contexts and awareness of ethical differences across cultures.

Studying abroad changed my life. It is always the first thing I get asked about in an interview. It taught me how to manage my time and money in a new environment. I am more independent and conscious because of studying abroad. Courses at LSBU helped me succeed in interviews because my professors were very open for discussion. Talking with professors made me act less nervous in interviews and taught me just to act normal.
Faculty Spotlight
Dr. Mohammed Awad is the Department Chair and Assistant Professor of Computer Science at the American University of Ras al Khaimah. Dr. Awad’s research interests include security, more specifically in E-voting and I-voting security. Currently, he is collaborating on a National Science Foundation (NSF) grant to develop a curriculum module to illustrate electronic voting for non-Computer Science majors. An additional area of interest concerns safeguarding the transmission of biometric data and integrating captured biometric data (iris scans or any other biometric data) into the electoral process in order to achieve more reliable systems.
Dr. Awad earned his PhD in Computer Science from the University of Houston in the United States in 2011. He earned a MSc in Computer Science at the same university in 2006. He completed a BSc in Computer Science at Yarmouk University in Jordan in 2003.
