Seoul is a dynamic city with loads of history, culture, dining, and entertainment. Students are encouraged to explore their host city and the rest of South Korea.

Housing & meals

HYU Residence Halls offer double-occupancy rooms with en-suite bathrooms. Rooms are furnished with beds, desks, chairs, wardrobes, bookshelves, storage cabinets, and an air-conditioner. WiFi and bedding are included. HYU residence halls offer study rooms, lounges, a laundry room, a fitness room/gym, snack machines, and a cafeteria. Space in the residence halls is limited, especially for summer and winter programs. Students are encouraged to apply and enroll early to ensure space in the residence halls. 

Private student residences off-campus are available if the HYU residence halls are full. These residences offer similar amenities and different room types, including single, double, and triple-occupancy. Depending on the residence and room type, a supplemental housing fee may apply (contact KEI for more information).

HYU cafeteria is located in the residence hall and open to all students. The cafeteria serves Korean and international cuisine. There is no meal plan option, but the food is discounted for students studying at HYU. There are many cafes and restaurants off-campus and throughout Seoul. Compared to the USA, food in Korea is more affordable.

Getting around town

Seoul has efficient public transportation that includes a subway network and a comprehensive bus system, featuring color-coded routes (blue, green, red, and yellow) for different service types. Taxis and rideshare options are also available.

HOWdy

HOW (Hanyang One World) is an organization that assists foreign students in adapting to life in Korea and at Hanyang University. HOW organizes different activities to facilitate interaction between study abroad and Korean students. Events range from social mixers to making Makgoli (traditional rice wine) to overnight trips. KEI students are welcome to participate in all HOWdy events.
