Seoul

Seoul is a huge metropolis where modern skyscrapers, high-tech subways, and pop culture meet Buddhist temples, palaces, and street markets. Notable attractions include the futuristic Dongdaemun Design Plaza, a convention hall with curving architecture and a rooftop park; Gyeongbokgung Palace, which once had more than 7,000 rooms; Jogyesa Temple, site of ancient locust and pine trees; Bukchon Hanok Village, with hanoks (traditional houses) dating back to the Joseon Dynasty; and Nanta, a non-verbal performance that blends comedy, music, and acrobatics using kitchen utensils as musical instruments.

Demilitarized Zone (DMZ)

The Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) is a 2.5-mile-wide, 160-mile-long buffer established in 1953 to separate North and South Korea following the Korean War armistice. It is one of the most heavily fortified borders in the world. Despite its military function, the decades of restricted human access have allowed nature to reclaim the land, turning the DMZ into an involuntary wildlife sanctuary and a biodiversity hotspot. The area also contains the Joint Security Area (JSA), a neutral zone where the two sides have held face-to-face negotiations.

Nami Island

Nami Island (Namiseom) is a charming, half-moon-shaped island near Seoul, renowned for its scenic natural beauty. Famous as a filming location for the K-drama Winter Sonata and for its beautifully manicured gardens and tree-lined paths, it offers visitors a tranquil escape with amenities like bike paths, cultural attractions, and local cafes. The island functions as a self-declared “Naminara Republic” and provides a romantic, art-filled atmosphere for enjoying nature and recreation.

Jeju Island

Jeju is South Korea’s largest island. The island is a popular destination due to its unique cultural heritage and stunning natural beauty. Formed by eruptions from the Hallasan volcano, the now-dormant island offers visitors lava tubes, volcanic beaches, and diverse ecosystems.
