ENGLAND ACADEMICS
The semester and academic year curricula offer courses in a wide range of subjects. Courses are taught at London South Bank University (LSBU). Students can enroll in up to 4 courses per semester. At least 2 courses must be from the same LSBU academic unit: ACI, APS, BUS, ENG, HSC or LSS. Most courses are the equivalent of 3 to 4-semester credits in the USA.
Students interested in an internship should select the Semester Internship or Summer Internship program.
Selecting Courses
The LSBU Module Directory provides a list of courses (modules) open to study abroad students. Follow the instructions below to search the directory.
STEP 1: Open Directory
- Open the LSBU Module Directory page.
- Page opens in a new browser window/tab.
STEP 2: Filter Search
In the Filter by section (left side)…
- Subject… tic one or more checkboxes to limit course offerings in specific subject area(s). KEI recommends that you do NOT tic any checkboxes to view all available courses. UK universities iorganize their academic departments differently than US universities. Sertain courses may be liby a different department than what you may expect.
- Semester… tic the semester when you plan to study abroad. Most LSBU courses (modules) are offered during Semester 1 (Fall) or Semester 2 (Spring). However, some LSBU courses span both, Semesters 1 and 2; these courses are available to Academic Year students ONLY.
- UK Level… tic “4”, “5” and “6” or do not tic any checkbox. Note that level “7” courses are graduate-level in the USA, although students may request special consideration if they have the required prerequisites.
- Core or Optional… do not tic any checkboxes.
- Assessment Type… do not tic any checkboxes.
- Academic year… tic the academic year when you plan to study abroad. If your academic year is not available, tic the previous year.
StTEP 3: Search Directory
In the Search field…
- Use keywords from course titles to limit the search.
- TIP: KEI recommends you do not use the Search field. Use the Filter instead.
STEP 4: Results
On the Results page…
- Click the Down Arrow next to course titles to view the Module Code (course number), Description, Prerequisites, and UK Credit.
- Go to the Course Syllabi section of this page to find and download the syllabi. If a syllabus for a course is not available on the KEI website, email your KEI Program Specialist the Module Code and Module Title and KEI will request the syllabus from LSBU.
NOTE
- Module Codes indicate the level of the course. As a general rule, most Level 4 modules are equivelent to 2nd year courses in the USA; Level 4 are equivelent to 3rd year; Level 5 are equivelent to 4th year; and most Level 7 modules are equvelent to graduate level in the USA. Students may select Level 7 modules if they have the prerequisites.
- UK Credit is based on the CAT system. As a general rule, 5 UK CAT is equivelent to 1 US semester credit. Hence, 20 CAT is equivent to 4 US semester credits; 15 CAT is equivelent to 3 US semester credits. Note that your home university may use a different equivelency between CAT and US credit on your campus. Students should consult with the study abroad advisor at their home universities.
Course Syllabi
After selecting your courses in the LSBU Module Directory, locate the courses in this section and click on the course titles to download PDF syllabi. If you cannot find a syllabus, contact KEI and we will request the syllabus from LSBU. Syllabi are organized by LSBU academic unit and subject. Click on the plus (+) sign next to each subject to view course titles.
DO NOT use this section for selecting your courses. This section is for downloading syllabi only.
